What is the Friends of the Markesan Library?
The Friends of The Markesan Library group is a volunteer group from the greater Markesan area. The Friends provide support for and recognition to the library by representing the Library to their communities. The Friends help to complement the role of the libraries within the community. The Friends is important to the Markesan Public Library and every effort will be made by all employees and Board Members to establish and maintain a good relationship with the Volunteer Friends Group.
The Purpose of a Friends Group is:
- To promote and publicize the resources, programs and budget needs of the Library;
- To provide funds for projects or acquisitions in excess of the general library budget;
- To encourage contributions, endowments, memorials and bequests to the Library;
- To act as an advocate for the library on both local and state levels;
- To sponsor community events and activities in cooperation with the Library and library staff;
- To volunteer time for special projects and special services in cooperation with the Library and library staff
