On Thursday, October 3rd, we are celebrating Global Bird Day early with events especially for bird watchers!
At 3:15 pm, we'll have a screening of "Flyways", a PBS documentary following bird researchers and citizen scientists around the world who work to study and protect migratory shorebirds on their incredible long-distance journeys. Light refreshments provided.
Then, at 4:00 pm, experienced birder Mr. Jon Roti Roti from the Green Lake Bird and Nature Club will lead a workshop on "Birdwatching for Beginners." Learn the basics of bird identification, how to use binoculars, and more. We'll have our new bird watching kits available for you to use and check out afterwards!
Come to either event, or both of them!
Funding for these events and the new birdwatching kits was provided by a grant through the Flyways Citizen Science Program, a collaboration between SciStarter and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios. This event is part of a nationwide effort to engage communities in the study and preservation of bird migration routes, known as flyways.
